How to Play Rummy
A five-step 13-card rummy lesson
Download App
The download currently identifies as Teen Patti Master. Confirm that it includes a rummy tutorial before installing.
Learn the Cards
Each player gets 13 cards. Arrange them into valid sets (3-4 same rank) and sequences (3+ consecutive same suit).
Draw & Discard
On your turn, draw from open/closed deck and discard one card. Build your winning hand strategically.
Form Pure Sequence
You must have at least one pure sequence (no joker) to declare. This is mandatory in valid Rummy.
Declare & Win
Once all cards are arranged in valid groups, declare! First valid declaration wins the round.
Rummy Game Variants
Points Rummy
Points Rummy usually settles one deal using a table-defined point value. Read the scoring and drop rules first.
Pool Rummy
Pool Rummy commonly uses a 101- or 201-point elimination limit. Check re-entry and split rules for the table.
Deals Rummy
Deals Rummy uses a fixed number of deals with an initial chip allocation; confirm the exact scoring method.
Practice Mode
A useful practice mode should teach sorting, sequences, sets and declaration errors without requiring paid entry.
Rummy Pro Tips
Practical habits for reducing avoidable errors
Pure Sequence First
Always focus on forming your pure sequence first. Without it, you cannot make a valid declaration. Prioritize this above all else.
Watch the Discard Pile
Track what opponents pick and discard. If someone picks 7♠, avoid discarding 6♠ or 8♠. This prevents helping their sequences.
Smart Joker Use
Use jokers for high-value sets, not sequences. A joker replacing a King saves more points than replacing a 3 if you lose.
Drop High Cards Early
If K, Q, J aren't forming groups quickly, discard them. They add 10 points each if opponent declares. Middle cards are safer.
Bluff with Discards
Avoid speculative bluffs until you can track discards reliably; revealing less information is useful only when it does not damage your hand.
Know When to Drop
Drop and wrong-declaration penalties vary by table. Read the current score sheet before applying a fixed number.
Frequently Asked Questions
A pure sequence is 3 or more consecutive cards of the same suit without any joker. For example: 4♥ 5♥ 6♥ or J♠ Q♠ K♠. Every valid declaration requires at least one pure sequence.
Each player receives exactly 13 cards. You must arrange all 13 into valid sets and sequences. A valid hand needs minimum 2 sequences (one must be pure) and remaining cards in sets or sequences.
A sequence is 3+ consecutive cards of the same suit (5♦ 6♦ 7♦). A set is 3-4 cards of the same rank but different suits (9♠ 9♥ 9♣). Both can use jokers except pure sequences.
